PERFORMING ARTS

The Performing Arts department is one of the staples of Expressive Arts at Leyton Sixth Form College. We pride ourselves on producing and nurturing the high level of talent and quality we see in our sold-out musicals and groundbreaking music gigs.

UAL Awarding Body L3 Diploma/Extended Diploma in Performing Arts

The BTEC 90 Credit Diploma in Performing Arts (Acting) offers you the opportunity to gain vocational training in the field of Performing Arts. The team of practitioners at Leyton Sixth Form College are highly experienced in their craft, all coming from a professional performance background and work extensively outside of the college. Consequently, students experience a rich learning environment gaining practical skills from industry professionals, it’s not surprising that the students who have left us are now studying at the worlds most acclaimed drama schools. Our network enables students to gain experience working in a wider range of professional stage and film productions giving constant opportunity to further develop confidence and talent within any sphere. Our ethos is to train you to build a range of transferable skills for other employment opportunities. To develop high levels of confidence, self-discipline and communication aiding you to advance in a range of careers both in the private and public sectors, e.g. marketing, public relations & events management to name a few.

 

Entry requirements: 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above.

UAL Awarding Body L2 Diploma in Performing Arts.

This is a highly successful one year level 2 performing arts course for students with a grade profile of D’s and E’s. It provides a thorough practical grounding in performance skills and is taught by industry professionals. Classes include acting, script work, devising and music. Students who obtain a Merit or above by the end of the course have the chance at the end of the year to progress on to level 3 courses, and many of our ex-students who started on the level 2 course, have now progressed to top drama schools and universities, including The Arts Educational School, East 15 Acting School, and Exeter university. During the year, students have many opportunities to enhance their performance skills, with the chance to audition for Enrichment shows, and sessions with visiting practitioners.

 

Entry requirements: D’s and E’s at GCSE.

BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Dance

You will study a whole range of dance skills and techniques, to give you  a really broad and creative dance training in styles such as Jazz, Urban, Contemporary and Ballet. All teachers have industry experience and you will also work with visiting professional artists. The course is vocationally delivered based upon the practice of the best dance Schools and you will be given a real commission for each term. Most the course is delivered through practical activities with some research tasks and written assignments for certain units. You will learn and perform choreographed pieces and devise exciting new work of your own. You will improve your dance technique and fitness, develop your artistic understanding of dance and have many opportunities to perform.

 

Entry requirements: 4 GSEs at Grade C or above.

BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Performing Arts

The BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Performing Arts (Acting) offers you the opportunity to gain vocational training in the field of Performing Arts, exploring three core units over the space of a year – Principals of Acting, Drama improvisation and Contemporary Theatre.  The certificate runs as an equivalent to an AS, while the second year, the Subsidiary Diploma, acts as an A2 qualification.  The team of practitioners at Leyton Sixth Form College are highly experienced in their craft, all coming from a professional performance background and work extensively outside of the college.
