Hairspray - A director's note.

Hairspray cast

Come with us on a journey back in time to 1960s Baltimore, for our big enrichment musical of the year Hairspray! Dance-loving teen Tracy Turnblad auditions for a spot on "The Corny Collins Show" and wins. She becomes an overnight celebrity, a trendsetter in dance, fun and fashion. Perhaps her new status as a teen sensation is enough to topple Corny's reigning dance queen and bring racial integration to the show.

Hairspray at LSC Expressive Arts was our most ambitious and demanding musical to date. With a 30-strong cast of students and a 9-piece band performing four performances over three days, we had a mission on our hands! But after a lot of late night rehearsals (after lessons, during weekends and holidays!) and knock out performances to sold out audiences, it’s safe to say the cast of hairspray did an amazing job. A regular occurrence in the incredibly positive feedback received about the show was that people forgot they were watching a college production and how well the cast contributed on stage to each other. The show all in all was a huge success and has opened the doors to making future productions in the season even more challenging!

I would like to say a massive thank you to the incredibly hard-working cast, my two fellow creatives Inez Moore and Tom Fowkes and the entire Expressive Arts department at LSC for their incredible support.

Thanks,

Tyler Dew.
