Media

In the media department we have a range of creative courses from A Levels to Level 2 Media production. Taking trips to film festival and galleries, hearing from visiting industry professionals and producing work in our fully equipped edit suite, photography and TV studios, our students get a rich, stimulating experience.

A-Levels and Certificates

Media Studies

Over two years you will explore a variety of media industries, forms and issues, producing creative work alongside academic studies. Projects include TV advertising, news writing and design, film and video game marketing and music video production.

In the past year students took trips to meet the makers of the BAFTA nominated The Hard Stop, watched the recording of a live TV show and visited an exhibition exploring new directions in video, art and music. We were also visited by the producer of Chewing Gum and Some Girls. In May 2017 two of our students were joint overall winners of the Walthamstow International Film Festival.

Film Studies

Why do people make films? What do films tell us about the world? How is film adapting to the modern digital world? In Film Studies you will explore the whys, the hows and the whens - looking back into the history of film as well as speculating on the future. Alongside this you will be making your own work - photographed storyboards and short films giving you your own experience of life behind the lens.

Past students have been involved with the Stories on Screen project with University of the Arts London as well as attending the BFI London Film Festival, Into Film Festival and going to talks by world renowned filmmakers like Amma Asante (Belle, A United Kingdom) and Werner Herzog (Lo and Behold, Grizzly Man, Fitzcarraldo)

Photography

(BTEC Level 3 Certificate/Subsidiary Diploma)

Working in our professionally equipped digital photography studio, you will be producing studio and location work, exploring different lighting set ups and photographic manipulation techniques in this 2 year course equivalent to an A Level.

At the end of year students come together to produce a large scale exhibition showcasing work in fashion, portraiture and product photography.
